In February of this year, Diesel Laptops introduced the Truck Fault Codes iOS and Android app, which provides access to more than 40,000 diagnostic trouble codes found on commercial trucks. Initially, the app focused solely on allowing users to search by manufacturer, model, and code number to get information on the components related to that diagnostic code, along with a list of probable causes so that you can isolate problems and repair your vehicle. While this functionality is still the underlying core feature of the app, version 1.7 has added a host of new community focused features to bring the in-app experience to a whole new level. In this blog post, I will be discussing the three biggest improvements in version 1.7

Get the latest version

Before you can access the new features that will be discussed in this blog post, please head to your app store of choice and make sure you have the latest version of the app. If you need any assistance with troubleshooting the installation and set up of this app, please consult this instructional blog post or contact us for technical support.

1.  Custom user profiles.

Please note – In this example, I’m using a Google Pixel 2XL running Android Oreo version 8.1.0. You may have a slightly different experience on your phone. If you run into any issues, please contact our tech support. Before you can take advantage of the new profile features, you will of course need to set up a user profile.

Set up your profile

If you have an account, just click the “Log in” button and log in with the same exact user name and password that you use for the online version of If you can not remember your password, just click the reset password link and follow the instructions to reset your password. If you are a new user, just follow the on screen prompts to input your email, user name and password, and other account details. After that, you’re all set to add an avatar for your custom user profile.

Step one

Tap the little yellow pencil next to the placeholder image.

Step Two

Choose which method you’d like to use to add your profile photo.

Step Three

Choose your photo and click save. You’ve now got a fancy new avatar.

2.  Search History

In version 1.7, we’ve added a powerful new search history feature. This time-saving feature will allow you to quickly access all of your past searches, right from within your user account page. This will especially come in handy for any time you need to access information without having a code handy. Let’s say you just looked up a fault code, found the trouble shooting information you needed but got pulled away to another task and couldn’t deal with the issue right then and there. Unless you memorized the fault code, you would need to go through the trouble of finding it again from scratch, possibly needing to hook a diagnostic tool back up to an ECM to get the code again. Now, you can just check your search history instead.

To access the search history feature, just follow these quick and easy steps.

  1. Click on the history button in the upper right hand corner of your profile screen. It is next to your profile picture (avatar.)
  2. You will get a complete list of everything you’ve searched for (in my case I have done 8 searches as shown at the top middle.)
  3. Click on your desired fault code and get the repair information you need.

Perhaps the most community focused feature of the Truck Fault Codes version 1.7 update is the new ability to leave comments on each and every fault code you come across. The ability to add comments will open the app to a whole new level of user engagement.

Now you can leave comments and informative feedback as you come across issues within the app. See a solution that works? Great, let others end users know. See something that isn’t working properly? Then please leave a comment, alerting Truck Fault Codes to the issue and we’ll work to resolve it.

Feel free to engage in the community and let other customers know your experience. This will lead to a better user experience for everyone. Leaving comments is easy. Just click the “add comment” button, write your comment and submit.
