NavKal ECM Programming Software

Navistar, which owns International Truck and Engine, has finally made the NavKal software available to the general public. Navkal is the PC-based software to perform programming and updates to International Electronic Control Modules (ECMs). This software has always been a “dealer only” tool until recently. This software will all you to either update or program ECMs on all International engines, including:

NavKal Pro & NavKal Standard

Navistar has made their NavKal software available in two versions, depending on what you would like to do. It is important to note that neither software will actually give you any kind of troubleshooting or repair information for codes. For this information, you would need to look at a program such as our DTC Solutions that has repair information included.

NavKal Standard

  • Update Calibrations
  • Display ECM software version and available upgrades
  • Read and clear diagnostic codes

NavKal Pro

  • Update Calibrations
  • Display ECM software version and available upgrades
  • Read and clear diagnostic codes
  • Perform Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) controlled parameter updates
  • Blank module programming

Software Requirements

As with any software program, you computer must meet a couple of minimum requirements. All of these are very low, and any computer made in the last 5 years has more the enough to handle it.

  • Windows 7
  • 1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, AMD Athlon X2 or better
  • 2GB (32-bit) or 4GB (64-bit) of RAM
  • 300MB of available hard disk space
  • 1024 x 768 resolution monitor

Hardware Requirements

Now that we have several customers that have purchased the NavKal software from us, we have run across issues with customers running the original Nexiq USB Link. We contacted Navistar for technical support, and they stated that the original USB Link (part # 125032) is not supported. Furthermore, they gave us the following list of recommended adapters:

With all of that said, they also state that any RP1210A device should work. However, as we have seen first hand this is not always the case.
